A new year, a new you – Inside and Out (part 2)

We all want to make 2014 a beautiful year! Last week we shared some tips on what you can do to let your inner beauty shine… and there’s nothing wrong with working on your overall package. We aim to provide some inspiration:

 Lose Weight

Slimming down requires a combination of healthy lifestyle choices including a nutritious diet and regular exercise.

  • If your annual resolution is “I’m going to lose 30 pounds,” consider instead, “I’m going to make some basic changes in what and when I eat.” You can find this and other tips at “New Year, New You” by Health
  • Eat more healthy fruits and vegetables. You'll see a noticeable difference in the way you look and feel. Avoid processed foods. They come with a host of health issues and concerns.
  • Even though high intensity interval training and body weight training top the list of 2014 fitness trends according to an American College of Sports Medicine survey, such rigorous exercise isn’t for everyone. According to com “5 Anti-Aging New Year’s Resolutions” look for classes such as yoga and tai chi to increase physical health and widen social circles.

 Get More Anti-Aging Sleep

Your skin always looks better after a good night’s sleep. Sleep can reduce dark under eye circles and make your skin glow.

  • According to Oz’s website “The wrong sleeping habits won’t just lead to fatigue-related grumpiness, they can also lead to premature aches and wrinkles.” The key to anti-aging sleep is preventing your face from squashing on your pillow, which can contribute to wrinkles.
  • It’s best to sleep on your back, but if you can’t, JuveRest® The Sleep Wrinkle Pillow can keep your skin looking radiant and wrinkle free by helping you avoid the damaging effects of facial compression during sleep.

Change Your Beauty Regimen for Better Skin & Hair

At BeautyandSoul.com, the editors want us to pay attention to the expiration dates on makeup and the bacteria on our brushes.

  • Wash your make-up brushes once a week with facial cleanser and warm or hot water. Old foundation, blush or eye shadow on your brushes harbor harmful bacteria that could cause skin irritation, infection or trigger breakouts.
  • Beauty products have use-by dates. Common side effects of using expired products include skin reactions, conjunctivitis and other eye infections. Here are some general guidelines:

Product Type

General Expiration Date

Mascara, Liquid Eyeliner, Gel Eyeliner

2-3 months after opening

Liquid Foundation, Concealer, Moisturizers, Serums

6 to 12 months after opening

Lipstick

2 years

Lip Gloss

1 year after opening

Nail Polish

1 to 2 years

Powder-based Products (such as Eye Shadow, Blush or Face Powder)

2 years

Fragrance

8 to 10 years

Body Lotion

1 to 2 years

  • Anti-aging hair care also requires changes in your routine. Prevention Magazine suggests hair products fortified with vitamins A, B, C, E, and nutrients such as calcium and magnesium.

From all of us at JuveRest, we wish you a happy, healthy and beautiful 2014… and remember to sleep well.
